It seems that more and more people are looking into gardening and seeing it in a new light. Years ago gardening was viewed as a difficult chore that had to be done in order to have a decent looking yard or to add focus and beauty to a home. Some people also believed that gardening only appealed to older folks. Today people from all walks of life including children, young adults, adults and older folks see gardening as a rewarding hobby that is refreshing and invigorating.

If you’ve never gardened before and want to start, don’t be afraid and get started. It is not meant to be difficult and as a matter of fact, it can be lots of fun. There are lots of gardening books and magazines with a wealth of information to guide you along or better yet, ask mom or grandma for advice. Most likely they will tell you how much they enjoy gardening and that it is not a hindrance to start growing your own plants outdoor or indoors. And what a joy it will be when you get to see your flower garden blossom and looking beautiful.

As a starting point, decide what it is that you want to grow in your garden. Don’t make it complicated; you can start with just a bed of colorful flowers initially. Once this is done, look around and maybe plan for an exotic country garden full of wild flowers and shrubs, all different kinds of little trees and shrubs or just go for a backyard full of containers planted with grown plants. This is not difficult to do because you can find lots of information on how you can start doing them. You can also visit your local gardening places and the experts for assistance and ask lots of questions.

Next you need to get the basic tools that you need to start gardening. For starters you will need a trowel, spade, rake, lawn mower and of course plants of your choice to grow. Remember that the kinds of plants to grow will depend on what type of garden you want, the availability of those plants, and the climate where you live. Keep in mind that there are plants that grow only for one season like annuals and there are others that can be cultivated to grow year after year like perennials. Before you buy the plants, make sure you have a basic plan on the space you have available where you want to start your garden. If you have a small space, buy some colorful annuals and perennials as a starting point.

While shopping for your desired plants, be sure to get some potting soil. Before digging any holes, simply place the plants in the area designated for the garden and see how they look. Move them around until you are satisfied with the look of your garden. Follow the planting instructions that are included with all your plants, dig the holes in the ground and plant. As you can see, gardening is not difficult at all and the satisfaction you will get from caring for your garden and watching your plants grow and flower into gorgeous blooms is priceless.

Did you know that the modern age of rose gardening occurred when Jean-Baptiste Guillot produced a new class of rose in 1867? Since then, rose gardening has become an all time favorite hobby for lots of gardeners around the world.

Most people would have you believe that rose gardening is difficult. And, I am here to tell you that it is not. I find rose gardening easier to do than other flowers. Why? Because you plant your rose bushes once and with a little care, you will have beautiful roses for many years to come. Nothing is more beautiful than a rose garden in full bloom!

To get you started with your rose garden, remember that good soil is key in order to have healthy beautiful roses. It has been said that Soil Syrup is the answer for most soil problems. It can be applied directly to the plant or sprayed-on to condition your rose garden. This will improve that pH level so that Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium and trace minerals are made available to your roses. Also, the soil should be well drained but hold some moisture to prevent the roots from drying out completely.

When you are done conditioning the soil, begin planting your roses and be sure to read and follow the instructions given with each rose bush. Gently remove the rose bush from its container and place it in the area that you want to plant it. Cover the hole with soil and gently press the soil down around the rose bush. Water your roses regularly for the first two months until they take hold and are fully established. I prefer to water roses in the morning.

Roses love sun, so it is best to plant them in a sunny area. I also feed the roses in the spring and mid-summer with systemic rose food. One of the best in the market is Bayer 3 in 1 Systemic Rose food. Just follow the instructions given and your roses will stay healthy and beautiful for many years.

Rose gardening is not difficult and when in doubt, do a little research to get answers to your questions. With a little work and perseverance, you can create your dream rose garden.

To your dream rose garden,

Diana

Planning and setting up a flower garden may seem like a lot of work but once you learn the basics, it is not difficult at all. Here are some tips to get you started on your dream flower garden.

First, determine the size of the plot you are going to plant and make a rough sketch of your property in relation to the plot. If you want, you can use drafting paper and draw a map to so that it is more accurate. You can also use color pencils which are great for making maps.

As you make your sketch, keep in mind utility poles, existing plants and trees, sidewalks and map these out as well. If you know the sun and shade patterns of your yard, you can include this information in your sketch. You can also include slopes, hills or areas of special interest such as pleasant views that you want to preserve.

Once your sketch is made and you know where your flower garden will be situated, start visiting your local nurseries and look at different varieties of flowers. Or, better yet, start searching online where you can get lots of information about flower gardening. For example, when you search online, you can get pictures of the various types of flowers and pricing information so that you can compare prices with your local nurseries.

Next, picture the flower colors you like and the color combinations you think might go well with your home and your yard. Also think about the texture of the flowers you like, as well as the heights of the plants themselves. For example, if you plant roses, you may also consider adding ground cover for an awesome effect. And, remember that roses do come in various heights. Also think about the possibilities of raised beds, borders, walkways and trellises for your flower garden.

Keep in mind that different flowers do come out at different times of the year, so think about the time you want your flowers to bloom. You can have them bloom all at the same time, or you can stagger them throughout the growing season so you can have flowers all year round.

To your flower gardening success!

Diana
